Yes Man

– ★★★★★

I always been a romantic-comedy type of audience.  some i must say very good such as  ’50 First Dates’,  ‘Hitch’,  ’10 Things I Hate About You’, and i can hardly remember the rest but yes there’s lotta nice movies out there…

but none other like this one. Yes Man, starred by the famous Jim Carrey -who’s not gonna be too comical here –  and the beautiful Zooey Deschanel -yaii i’m your big fan!-.  Story goes as  Carl Allen (Jim Carrey), who was left by his wife years ago, suddenly lost his passion and keep saying ‘no’ to the world. he even forget his bestfriend’s engagement party, take all the chances he got to the garbage can and spend his nights doin nothing…barely nothing…’til one day he meet a man who introduce him to a club where all the member just need to say ‘yes man’ to everything comes ahead. even throwing oneself out of the bridge!

Well surrounded by doubt, he simply take it as a nice-treat but not to follow. All of course, before Terence Stamp, founder of  ‘Yes Man’ club makes a ‘covenant’ with Carl to say YES at every opportunity and Carl hesitantly agreed.  So just right after that, our ‘no-man’ Carl turns to ‘yes-man’ Carl who’d simply give his money away to a homeless man he met at the street just because the man ask for it.  not only that,  few miles later his car is running out of gas and pushed to stop aside. penniless and gas less, he starts questioning his own ‘yes-man’ act. then suddenly beautiful Alison (played by Zooey Deschanel)  riding a scooter came and offer him a ride to closest gas station.  there they meet and Alison take a picture of them.

After that, day after day he feels so much alive he even throwing oranges to all of the loan costumers at his bank. taking some Korean lessons, flight lessons, and even a guitar lesson. he shows up at the club to see a band without even knowing who they are. well it  so happened that the band is a rather weird psychedelic, kind of campy throw back band (two members wearing seahorse hats) and there are about 6 regulars who come to watch them perform and the lead singer is… Scooter girl from the park! After the show, he offers her a drink but she say no because she has a yoga/jogging/photography group she leads (she seems like a free spirit) and so Carl walks her to her scooter and say ‘yes’ to her invite on joining the group, which meet at 6am.

I wasn’t supposed to tell spoiler and break the fun right? so please go and watch them coz it’s really worth watching

My favorite scene is when Carl sing ‘Jumper’ by The Third Eye Blind to a man who’s attempting suicide…it’s so cute, funny, and at the same time … so sweet

overall i love the way Allison live her life and the way she presenting herself to the world…She take life as simple as she loves to make a jogging photograph and sing whatever song she likes, going somewhere clueless, just do whatever she likes. my fav Allison quote : “remember when we’re kids? well, life should be about having so much fun isn’t it?”

i also love the scene where Alison sing with her band. I love the band so much, and listen to their songs even while writing this down

the band itself called Munchausen by Proxy, made for the movie. two songs are featured in the movie. those are ‘Sweet Ballads’ and ‘Uh-huh’.  the rest make a nice soundtrack such as ‘Keystar‘ and ‘Yes Man’. while my favorite is ‘Uh-huh’ especially when Zooey sing it at the club. ‘Sweet Ballad’ and ‘Yes Man’ also has a nocturnal ambiance and easy to adore. never know Zooey Deschanel has that sweet sexy voice and Von Iva’s great

The song ‘Uh-huh’ is merely a spoken words from a girl to a man who’s just pretend that they doesn’t know each other while in fact they’ve been dated for 41/2 years.  anyway, i might just post the lyrics…

“Uh-huh”   by   Munchausen by Proxy

I should have been the one to break up with you
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I wanna snap your neck and spit on you.
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
If I got a call and said you were dead
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I’d shrug my shoulders and I say what-ev
You said, Who are you? Who are you?

Hey have we met before? Oh yeah I think we have
Because we only dated for four and a half years
No big deal, I’ve only witnessed you sitting on the couch
Watching Next in your undies,
But its cool that you act like you have no idea who I am.

I saw you a my records last night
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
You straighten your hair and had a henna tatto
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I wanna shove your face just shove it.
You said, Who are you? Who are you?

My mother thinks youre in the closet
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
Its so weird because when we used to go out you never even liked the TJ wantons
And now we have to drive all the way to marvista or some stupid place and eat
Some stupid butter-nut squash raviolli or something becuase you took the last bag like some
immature little clown.

I saw you thursday at the arclect
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I was on a date you ruined my night
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I saw you shopping at the trader just
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I see you everywhere it really blows.
You said, Who are you? Who are you?

Hey, did you ever meet my friend Ian?
He’s a coumputer hacker.
He helped me erase your Myspace page,
And your band’s Myspace page,
And your Facebook page.
Happy networking asshole.

So remember all the stuff you forgot
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
After you just bought.
You said, Who are you? Who are you?
I’d like to see the look on your greasy face.
You said, Who are you? Who are you?

And so for sixteen hundy on audi base?
He said, I know you. I know you.
Uh-huh.

just love the music as well as the lyric…especially when Zooey says :

He helped me erase your Myspace page,
And your band’s Myspace page,
And your Facebook page.
Happy networking asshole

just a little trivia …. the term ‘Munchausen by Proxy’ is originally related to uncommon condition that involves the exaggeration or fabrication of illnesses or symptoms by a primary caretaker. One of the most harmful forms of child abuse, MBPS was named after Baron von Munchausen, an 18th-century German dignitary known for telling outlandish stories.

The Syndrom’s usually occur in some individual -mostly a mother- deliberately makes another person -mostly her child- sick or convince others that her child’s sick, in order to gain attention and sympathy of doctors, nurses, and others who come into contact with him or her and the child. and also gets the satisfaction in being able to deceive individuals that they consider to be more important and powerful than themselves.

wew…it’s just a trivia … besides we love the other Munchausen by Proxy aren’t we? not this one😀
